- cmus is compiled from source on most platforms; distribution package managers (apt, dnf, pacman, brew) generally offer up-to-date builds — see the cmus packages wiki page for a full list.
- The project briefly forked as ‘cmus-unofficial’ in 2008 after original author Timo Hirvonen paused development; the fork was merged back into the official project in 2010.
