- Media Player Classic (MPC) received its last version 6.4.9.0 on 20 March 2006. An unofficial patched bugfix version was released by developer ‘clsid’.
- MPC was later on forked and became Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC). It was developed by MPC-HC community and received its last version on 07 May 2020.
- MPC-HC was forked by developer ‘clsid’ and is currently in limited development.
- Media Player Classic - Black Edition is based on MPC and MPC-HC. It began development in 2011 with 1st version released on 12 September 2012. It is likely to be slightly less performant compared to MPC-HC.
