ThrottleStop
Reads and adjusts Intel CPU throttling behavior, voltage offsets, and turbo power limits on Windows laptops and desktops
It takes care to curate a safe software space. Help us do more.
&
| + | Throttle Type Monitoring | Reports in real time whether the CPU is being slowed by thermal, power limit, or VRM-related throttling on a per-thread basis. |
|---|---|---|
| + | Clock Modulation Control | Displays and lets users disable OEM-configured clock and chipset clock modulation that silently reduces CPU speed on many laptops. |
| + | Set Multiplier | Manually fixes the CPU core multiplier so the processor runs at a chosen speed instead of relying on automatic Turbo Boost or SpeedStep transitions. |
| + | FIVR Voltage Tuning | Opens a dedicated window to adjust core, cache, and other voltage planes through the Fully Integrated Voltage Regulator for undervolting or stability tuning. |
| + | Turbo Power Limit Editor | Exposes PL1, PL2, and related MSR and MMIO power-limit registers so users can raise or lower the wattage a processor is allowed to sustain. |
| + | Disable and Lock Options | Locks selected power-limit or turbo registers after they are set, preventing OEM firmware or background utilities from silently reverting the change. |
| + | Speed Shift Configuration | Adjusts Intel Speed Shift minimum, maximum, and Energy Performance Preference values to influence how aggressively the CPU ramps clock speed. |
| + | PROCHOT Offset Adjustment | Raises the temperature at which thermal throttling engages, letting supported processors keep boosting closer to their thermal ceiling. |
| + | Per-Profile Settings | Stores up to several independent configuration profiles, each with its own power limits, voltage offsets, and Speed Shift values, switchable with keyboard shortcuts. |

Notes
Recommendations before use:
- Monitor power draw at the wall outlet when raising turbo power limits, since exceeding a laptop’s power adapter rating can damage the adapter or the system
- Test stability with the built-in TS Bench after any voltage offset change before trusting the profile for daily use
- Check whether the laptop’s firmware has disabled voltage control (a known side effect of Plundervolt-related BIOS updates) before assuming a hardware fault
- Ensure that voltage offsets are stable before configuring autostart
- Configure autostart through Windows Task Scheduler with administrator rights rather than the standard startup folder, since ThrottleStop needs elevation to function at login
